I must admit. Palo a commercial open source software backed by jedox Germany has significantly influenced my approach in building the scorecard software. I wanted a system that is easy to understand and easy to build and more than anything else, gives a quick holistic view of things. Web based software have elegant look but
It has influenced our approach to building a KPI based management system. What is so likeable about jedox is that it has put excel or spreadsheet ( which is the biggest Business Intelligence tool) in client-server mode. Unfortunately share-point even with excel services added-in cannot match.
Our approach is different and similar in following ways
1. We have put spreadsheet in a client-server mode. This makes it more powerful than excel-webservices from microsoft! Excel webservices do not have all the functionalities the excel on your computer has.
2. It is spreadsheet like..not spreadsheet files but on client-server...it is spreadsheet server with extensive charting and dashboard building functionalities
3. Unlike jedox and sharepoint we do not put everything in database!!! It is non-database or distributed database
4. Our spreadsheet act like database which are web enabled and can take a millions of rows..and can be sql queried
